Fashion month is now officially over. Sometimes (all the time) we wish we could sit front-row at all of our favourite shows. But then again, we would probably still look through all the pictures (yes, aaaaaall of them) to find those amazing little details that show how much work went into making the collections. We made collages of the things we loved about this years autumn/winter fashion month to use as inspiration.
We are surely not the only girls swooning over the princess-like dresses at Marchesa! The designers were inspired by Edwardian portrait painter John Singer Sargent, who was known for painting aristocratic women. The models looked as regal as queens in layers of tulle and organza, velvet and sparkling embellishments.
Mulberry’s collection is edgy and sexy, with some punkish elements. We love the orange and black rose print and all of the leather goods. You have to be a bit brave to wear those shoes, but the orange laces are a lot of fun.
#tb to the 1970’s! The statement-makers of this collection by Coach are the cool baseball jackets. They give the ultra-feminine skirts and patterned dresses a nice edge. We also love the shearling coats, metallic cowboy boots and the pearly buttons on the blouses. A wonderful clash of tomboy and ultra girly.
The Delpozo collection features structured silhouettes, 3D cut-outs and bold colours. We especially love the accessories that include embellished bags and gloves adorned with cut-out flowers. They would definitely suit a modern fairy tale princess!
Tommy Hilfiger loves themed collections and so do we! The cruise liner on the runway gave away the theme for this season. All the familiar nautical elements were there, from sailor pants, coats and collars to stripy a-line skirts, knotted necklaces and the frilly sock-and-shoe combo.
The arrow-shaped cutouts, simple shirtdresses with jeweled panels and psychedelic leather appliqués at Mary Katrantzou are amazing. And while the collection is extravagant, some pieces are still very wearable. That leather pencil skirt would look so good with a black high neck jumper!
Message fashion has become quite a thing lately, but Red Valentino take the trend to a classy level with hand-stitched words and phrases on jackets, blouses and skirts. Even the scarf-like necklaces have words on them. Oh, and we really want to make a jacket with a frilly back now.
We love the playfulness in Markus Lupfer’s collection. The leather jacket is decorated with small lip-shaped studs and the embroidered bags and boots are just so cute. But those embellished socks truly stole our hearts!
Thank you, Scotland, for inventing the telephone, shortbread, David Tennant and Pringle of Scotland. This seasons collection is a nod to the days in which the brand specialized in knit undergarments, hence the topstitched bodice details and corsets. Super chunky knits, shearling and tartan are some of our favourite things about autumn and winter fashion too.
There were some looks from other designers that we found inspirational, so here’s a mix of those things. We love the floral corsets at McQueen, Preen’s tartan coat, bralets over jumpers at Milly and Ji Oh’s shearling co-ords. And that green biker jacket by Victoria Beckham is everything.
